Thirty-six points, and what they are made of

Ashtakoota scores eight kootas out of thirty-six. Two of them are all-or-nothing and carry fifteen points between them, so a couple can score full marks on everything a reader would recognise as compatibility and still land in the low twenties. Those two come first here, the number comes last, and every koota shows the rule that produced it.

Roles matter: Varna and Gana both score differently depending which way round the pair is read, so the two sides are not interchangeable.
